Bicycle, Beret, and Baguettes
This photo was taken in 1983, but even then I was surprised to find such an iconic scene.
While exploring the back streets of Chartres in France, I spotted this gentleman riding towards me. Just as I was about to snap his photo, he veered his bike into an alley I had not noticed. Running ahead to discover where he had disappeared, I had time for just one photo (with manual focus!) before he dismounted from his bicycle.
This image has been published numerous times, including the cover of the Let’s Go: Europe travel guide in 2001.
